- SIGN THE PLEDGE
Where do the funds go?
Your donations will provide clean energy tools for people whose health, safety, education and livelihoods are compromised due to lack of energy access.
Power the World is partnering with Uncharted Play to provide families in South America with access to clean energy solutions in the form of a SOCCKET, a soccer ball that also functions as a portable generator.
Through the distribution of SOCCKETs, we will improve the lives of children living in areas prone to natural disasters by providing them with a sustainable source of energy. Our partnership will facilitate learning for children by enabling productivity and education, by promoting healthy mental and physical development through play, and by building community.
Each child who receives a SOCCKET will be able to share it with their entire family (1 SOCCKET helps 5 people) and utilize its power capabilities for LED lamps, fans, cell phone chargers, water purifiers and audio speakers.
Every $50 donation provides 1 SOCCKET, 1 LED lamp, and 1 Lamp stand.
Donations to Power the World are contributed to our non-profit partners, including Uncharted Play. Power the World is a project of Linkin Park’s humanitarian non-profit organization, Music for Relief.
How does my voice help?
Sharing this message is the most important thing you can do to help. Governments, large companies and nongovernmental organizations can have an enormous impact in solving this problem, and they are all influenced by public opinion. If you sign the pledge and share Power the World with your friends, they can share it with their friends. People will begin talking about energy access and governments and corporations will take notice. Think about it: before today, did you know that nearly 1 in 5 people on the planet lack the most basic access to electricity? Knowing there is a problem is the first step to a solution.
How will Power the World help 1 million families?
Music for Relief has pledged to help 1 million families gain access to sustainable energy through the end of 2013. In funding innovative clean energy solutions for families, businesses, health clinics, and communities we will be gathering data on the number of families whose lives have been improved. Each SOCCKET provides energy for a family of five. You can make a difference and bring clean energy tools to families in South America.
Join Linkin Park to help Power the World
1.3 Billion people do not have access to electricity.
This staggering fact ignited Linkin Park's interest in helping to find solutions.
To that end, the band pledged to support UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon's Sustainable Energy for All initiative. Through Music for Relief, Linkin Park has pledged to Power the World: a commitment to help raise awareness about energy access, highlighting innovative solutions and providing opportunities for people to get involved. Music for Relief is dedicated to disaster relief and protecting the environment; sustainable energy access is critical to both activities. Energy is necessary for effective humanitarian response, while it also empowers people living in disaster-prone areas, allowing them to receive warnings and be better prepared.
Sustainable energy is critical to protecting the environment. Some 2.5 billion people - almost half of humanity - rely on pollutants like wood, charcoal, and dung for cooking and heating. In the developed world, we need to improve methods of generating the power we need and be more efficient in how we consume it.
